Here's some advice I give my clients to think about as they prepare to purchase a home:
Homeowner’s insurance matters
As with your other most valued possessions, you'll want to protect your new home with homeowner’s insurance. A comprehensive homeowner's insurance policy provides coverage for the following:
-
Fire damage
-
Water damage
-
Personal possessions
-
Personal liability
-
Vandalism
-
Theft
-
Loss of use of the home
If you're going to have a mortgage on the home you buy, your lender will require that you purchase a minimum of basic hazard insurance, which will fund the cost to rebuild your home in case of a disaster. It's a good idea to contact your insurance agent early on in the home-buying process. He or she will guide you on coverage and quote the rates and terms of your homeowner’s insurance policy.
If you need advice or guidance about the homeowners insurance process, let me know and I'd be happy to help put you in touch with the appropriate professionals.
